Lead G.W. Whitaker 1903 Oil on Canvas of Four Seasons
Description
in very good condition in original frame. Overall size 31" x 59". Sight size of each painting is 10 1/2" x 19". George William Whitaker (1840-1916) tonalist landscape painter. He was called the "Dean of the Providence Painters". He was also the first instructor of oil painting of the Rhode Island School of Design. This painting was a wedding present given to Thomas Douglas and Jeannette Baker by former New York Governor John Alden Dix. This painting used to hang in the historic Grandview Farm located on the banks of the Hudson River in Selkirk, NY. Professional restoration to this painting and frame has been done by the West Lake Conservators in Skaneateles, NY.
