Lead ORIGINAL GERMAN MP-44 MACHINE GUN.
Description
Cal. 7.92x33. S# 4548Q. Bbl. 16 1/2" w/ thread protector as threaded for Krummlauf device. The MP-44 is commonly referred to as the first true modern assault rifle. Chambered in 7.92x33mm, this allowed the standard German cal. to remain 8mm while at the same time adopting a medium range load. Select fire, allowing semi or full auto fire w/ the simplicity of sliding the switch above the safety. This rifle utilized both metal stampings & machined parts to minimize production cost and time. Hooded fixed blade front sight. Ladder rear sight graduated to 800 meters. Circular mag. release emboldened w/ ring pattern. Checkered cross block selector switch "E/D". Folding dust cover over ejection port on right side. Left hand reciprocating charging handle. An original example of the popular MP-44 MG. There are several stampings throughout the gun as is common of any German military firearm of this era. On bottom of receiver in front of mag. well are the following "COS", "6" or "9" depending on viewing perspective, eagle over "280", "qlv" (Erma) & complete German eagle. Left side receiver markings include "MP44" above trigger group & "4548Q / 44" on mag. well. Below front pivot pin, rear of mag. well eagle above "37" & "fxo" (Haenel). Trigger group marked "4548" as well as waffenamt "WaA21". Ladder rear sight marked "48". Op rod marked "4548" & "fxo". Bolt marked "4548" (field matched). Rear stock extenstion marked on bottom "548" & "COS". Bottom of handguard marked "Lx". Bbl. marked "1637b", "H" & "8". Gas port breech plug marked "ce" " (JP Sauer). It appears as though the firearms retains all original matching numbers on every outwardly marked major part except bbl, which appears to be an armory replacement. MAGS: 1 original "fxo" 30 rd. mag. marked "1001", "qlx" & "MP44". CONDITION: all parts function smooth & correct when cycled by hand. All exterior metal surfaces retain the majority of their original finish w/ exception of thinning on high spots. Gentle patina appears in areas of thinning finish. Bright bore w/ strong rifling. (03-1443/JZ). THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT CURIO & RELIC REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. $18,000-22,000.
