Description |
A collection worthy of a museum, and a band enshrined in The Hall of Fame. This auction does not just give an opportunity to buy a piece of history, but to be apart of it as well. Not only is this the first time some of these items have been seen by the public, but this is the very first time, that they have ever been up for auction. From banners that have been seen by millions, to original works of art by Jan Sawka, this auction is steeped in provenance.
Hal Kant and his wife Jesse, were with The Dead every step of the way. Hal was the attorney for The Dead, and was responsible for developing their successful business model. He was affectionately know by the band members as "The Czar." Being as close to one of the greatest band's in history, a collection of this caliber was inevitable.
This is an online only auction with bidding beginning on November 22nd at 10am ET, running until December 9th, at 1pm ET. There will be no minimus and there are no reserves.
In the spirit of the generosity that Hal, Jerry and the Grateful Dead were known for - we'll be making a donation to the Rex Foundation at the end of the auction as a gift from Dr. Jesse Kant, the estate of Hal Kant, and Stremmel Auctions. Hal served on the board of the Rex Foundation from it's start back in 1983 until he passed away in 2008. The Rex Foundation was established as a non-profit charitable organization, allowing the band to proactively support creative endeavors in the arts, sciences, and education. Despite Jerry's passing in 1995 the Rex Foundation continues to make grants funded by the very elements that hold our community together: music, connection, fun, creativity and community spirit. Since 1984 the Rex Foundation has granted $8.9 million to over 1,200 recipients. For more information please visit http://www.rexfoundation.org.
From a family near and dear to The Grateful Dead, Stremmel Auctions is proud to offer the auction: A Collection of The Grateful Dead and artist Jan Sawka.
This will be a timed auction. Each item will end at a certain time, similar to the way Ebay conducts a sale. To prevent from being "sniped" it is necessary for the highest and best bid to be placed prior to the close of the item.
