Lead Highly Engraved 1851 Colt Navy Revolver showpiece
Description
The Revolver was the Concept of the late Richard Washer, The Masterful Gold Inlaying and Engraving by K.C. Hunt and the Outstanding stock work by David Trevallian. Serial # 156833 Owned by Buddy Hackett, Emil A. Ripoli and appeared on the cover of the Gun Report in July 1978. R.L Wilson notes he first saw the "Captain John Winslow Colt model 1851 engraved Navy revolver in 192 soon after the end of the "Samuel Colt Presents" exhibition at the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford. First thought to be one of the most outstanding original engraved colts made for Admiral John Ancrum Winslow (19 November 1811 – 29 September 1873) who was most famous for sinking the CSS Alabama in 1864 while on the USS Kearsarge. In Wilson's letter he elaborates how Collector Richard Washer of London put together this outstanding pistol so well it was thought to the original presentation to Winslow until earlier this year. Wilson has used the pistol as an expose in "The Book of Colt Engraving" on page 400 as one of the greatest Colt engraved presentation Hoax's. Nonetheless the work executed by three of the industries greatest craftsman on the Winslow revolver remains an example of one of the finest Gold mounted and engraved 1851 Colt Navy's to be seen. A true collectors piece with loads of history. Includes original letter from RL Wilson and Gun Report.
