"This storm was watched as it moved to the north, seemingly dancing at the edge of the prairie. The cloud and sunset colors interacted and changed as the sun dropped and the prairie swells grew darker. The storm was seen on the way home from the 2023 Symphony on the Flint Hills event. Watercolor batik is a process of alternately applying watercolor paint and wax layers on Japanese paper to build up the image. After each layer of paint is dry, more wax is added to protect areas of that color before the next layer of darker paint is added. After the painting is complete, the wax is removed. The result is a rich pattern of color and texture." Watercolor Batik. Framed, 17H x 21W. Becka Jahelka draws inspiration from the prairie landscapes of her home state of Kansas. Her most unique process is batik, which involves alternately applying watercolor and wax to Japanese paper. She also creates landscapes and abstracts with a variety of printmaking techniques, such as etching, relief, and collagraph. Becka studied art at the University of Kansas, focusing on three-dimensional media. After raising a family and completing a business career, she has now renewed her dedication to the creative arts.
