APW - Waltham, "The Diamond" marked mvt, Model 1888 with unusual cutout train bridge, 17J, 16S, gold-filled OF original C.W.C.Co. case with fancy engraved initials to rear, cuvette with 1898 presentation, fancy white enamel SS impressed dial with colorful central floral and sky scene, red glass and gold foil accents, SW-SS, diamond endstone, sunburst pattern nickel damascene, mirrored finish regulator disk with spiral damascene, s#7496673.
An exceedingly rare and visually striking custom order Model 1888 movement, this movement has some visual similarities to other custom Model 1888 products such as the "Diamond Express" and the "Ultimatum," but its unusual train bridge form stands markedly apart from these others.
This particular watch is pictured in Roy Ehrhardt's 1982 "American Pocket Watches, Encyclopedia and Price Guide," and remains the only example of this watch that this cataloger has ever seen.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous plates, fine scratch to train bridge near center, scattered lesser fine to micro-fine scratches elsewhere with greatest profusion to balance cock foot, very minor oxide to larger winding wheel; dial with few scattered hls, fine scratch to right center, curved scratch within seconds-register, large edge flake under bezel near 7; fine hands; case shows little wear, fine scratches to cuvette from past slipped openings, few scratches within rear, no dents or dings, good engraving detail, few small bits of wear to brass to pendant, few tiny subtle spots of wear to brass to band, lower bezel, and rear edges, case rear with small bit of play at its hinge and opened case rear and cuvette fall closed freely with gravity; bow pivots semi-freely, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
