Lead Antique Mechanical Organette 19th-c.
Description
This charming early antique mechanical organette (19th-c.), is a true work of art. Housed in a hand-painted wooden box adorned with portrait cameos, it offers a glimpse into the past. The manual winding mechanism smoothly operates as the perforated paper roll dances over an air outlet bellows. The entire box, measuring 21 ½’’ W x 12 ¼’’ D x 11’’ T, is a canvas of hand-painted beauty. The lid features a 4’’ x 6 ½’’ hand-carved and painted music insignia, surrounded by scrolls. Though the double lock on the front with a key works, the lid sits slightly off-center. Inside, gold scrolls adorn the interior lid, and an extra iron crank handle for rewinding hangs ready. The exterior is adorned with elaborate hand-painted scrolls in gold, green, and red, framing 2’’x3’’ cameo portraits on front and back. While age has left its mark with some cracking and tearing, this music box remains in beautiful antique condition. Despite a replaced cover door, the magic of this musical treasure endures, inviting you to enjoy the timeless melodies and the simple elegance of days gone by.
