This 1964 Chevy Impala has been completely rebuilt into a one-off custom convertible. The ’64 Impala is an iconic car made into a household name largely through the influence of the 90s rap scene and Lowrider culture. The ’64 year model is the quintessential ‘Lowrider’ and the one that most people associate to. The convertible body style has always been considered to be top of the tree, both in rarity and value with approximately 10 times the number of coupes vs convertible built.
The car has been through a body off chassis rebuild with a number of upgrades. The chassis itself was sand blasted and powder coated. Upgrades include rack and pinion power steering conversion along with tubular upper and lower control arms in the front. The rear end features an adjustable panhard bar to keep everything centred. Although it has a distinct lowrider look, to keep it legal, the car has never been cut or fitted with hydraulics. The new owner can decide for themselves if they want to airbag it, put in hydros or just cruise it static as is without having to look over your shoulder constantly.
Under the bonnet lives a 307ci Chevy small block V8 engine paired to a column shifted Power Glide automatic transmission. The engine bay is highly detailed with the air cleaner, valve covers, plug wire covers, radiator infill, radiator cap and battery cover all fully engraved and chrome plated. The firewall and inner guards are all gloss painted to match the outside and there is a set of polished billet hood hinges. An upgraded alloy radiator with twin thermos fans keep temps in check. Exhaust gasses are expelled through a set of headers into a custom exhaust that dumps just in front of the rear wheels. The brakes have been upgraded to be power assisted discs up front with drums in the rear.
The body of the car itself has been professionally repainted in a deep solid gloss black. Providing a stark contrast against the black paintwork is a huge amount of chrome, a large part of which, is custom engraved. There is a massive amount of money spent on engraving throughout the build of this car and it certainly takes the car to another level, making it look like a rolling work of art. Externally, the front and rear bumpers, front light surrounds, rear light surrounds, mirrors, door handles, scuff guards, boot trim and entire side moulds have all been custom engraved and triple chrome plated. Even the genuine Zenith black 13” wire wheels have been extensively engraved. There is a brand new power operated convertible top finished in Mercedes Benz style cloth with custom ‘Gangsta’ rear window.
Moving inside the car and the same level of detail extends to the interior. The soft trim was all treated to a full interior kit in red by Ciadella out of the USA. The carpets are all new with sound deadner applied to the floor underneath. The dash features a set of Dakota Digital gauges to keep an eye on the vital signs. The chrome and custom engraving extends to the inside through the dash infill panel and custom sun visors. There is a huge custom stereo install by Signature Car Sound with Bluetooth head unit hidden in the glove box. Up front there are custom kick panels with lights and speakers while the boot is panelled out with amps and subwoofers with matching trim and lighting.
1964 Impala Convertibles are super desirable cars that rarely become available. This particular example has been tastefully modified and upgraded into a one of a kind, rolling work of art.
