18'' Blued "W" Marked Barrel, Type One Narrow Barrel Band, Type II Walnut Low Wood Stock, Oval Cut Oiler, Stock Marked IO for Inland-Overton, Early Style Flat Bolt, Correct Crossbolt Safety, Replacement Type Two Milled Adjustable Sight Marked IR CO for International Register Company, W-I Marked Magazine Release, Winchester Rollmarked Receiver, Early 2-Rivet Handguard. First block of production puts this Winchester at the end of 1942 to the middle of 1943 production. There is some wear to the finish on the barrel, but it is light. Bore is clean and does have some rifling left. The M1 Carbine was one of the most amazing manufacturing feats of the Second World War, with over 6 million M1's being manufactured in less than 3 1/2 years. There were 10 manufactures that received contracts to produce this rifle. Winchester was the designer and prime contractor. The man who designed the Carbine was David Marshall "Carbine" Williams, a moonshiner and convicted murderer from North Carolina. Winchester hired him after almost 15 years of hard labor served, in 1939. Winchester M1 Carbines are by far one of the most collectable and valuable of any contractors that produced them. Barrel does have a small import mark "PW Arms Redmond WA" under the barrel behind the front sight. There is some slight surface rust along the magazine well and trigger guard, but would clean up well. Lots of cosmoline still left in this rifle and appears it has been sitting for over 75 years.
