The letters are a collection of several different people. There is a number of letters from a Eugene O Storrs (spelling?). One letter references his brother Philip and another one appears to be from a Miles Storrs. That letter mentions Winterset (Iowa), as does the IRS certificate that is included in the lot, that possibly links them to Winterset (Madison County, Iowa). Another letter is from a Whitman B. Rhodes, dated 1868. The rest of them are dated earlier 1862-1864 mostly. The typed document says "Diary of James S. Sterling for 1864".
