FROM LEGACY.COM: A long time resident of Flagstaff, Arline Ruth Warner Tinus died October 4, 2013 at the age of 76 after a brief hospice stay at Sherman Home, Mayo Clinic Phoenix. She is survived by her brother Gerald and two sons, Craig and Eric. Arline was born in New Salem, New York in 1936, and as she grew towards adulthood, sketched images of her experiences, and began to express herself painting on canvas. Arline became a registered nurse and met her future husband at Wesleyan College while painting an image of its chapel. She had her first child, Eric, in Durham, North Carolina after working in a hospital emergency section, while her husband continued his college education. She moved with her husband to Oakland, California in 1960 where she studied painting with her mentor, Jonathan Bachelor. Arline then moved to the outskirts of Cheyenne, Wyoming where her second son, Craig, was born and her husband started his career with the US Department of Agriculture. After two years Arline and her family moved to Bottineau, North Dakota where she continued her passion for painting. In Minot, North Dakota she attained her art teaching certification so she could establish an art program at Bottineau High School in North Dakota. Arline created many sea and landscapes of the Pacific coast, the Rocky Mountains, the northern plains, and the southwest. After moving to Flagstaff in 1983, Arline continued to paint landscapes. She furthered her artistic ability through studies at Northern Arizona State University to receive her MFA. She became well known for the images she created of the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River.
