Based on J & S’ beach buggy, the Kalita sports car used a full-length (rather than shortened) Beetle mechanical platform, on which was attached a neat fibreglass body that incorporated a Triumph Stag like T-top roof hiding a built-in steel rollbar. Along with side intrusion bars and integrated bumpers front and rear, the Kalita was both stronger and with more room on the longer wheel base, more spacious and better equipped than your regular beach buggy. Unlike beach buggies too, the rear-mounted engine was hidden by full bodywork with the exhaust exiting through the rear bumper, giving the Kalita a more sporty, stylish, integrated appearance, though there was no hiding its origins. What we have here is a car that Porsche would have released in 1995. The last of the G-series, the smoothness of a 964, the exclusivity of a 935 Slantnose and a topless roof. Started life as a 1977 911SC Targa it was then stripped down to its shell. The body was mounted on a rotisserie and taken back to bare metal. The slant nose was fitted using all steel guards, the flutes filled in. The rear fins allow for extra cooling and styling. Converting a Targa to Cabriolet is a common and simple conversion as there are no body modifications needed. The bodywork and paintwork was completed by Ron Goodman and his attention to detail is A1. A special metallic pearl blue has been carefully applied to the body, undercarriage and suspension. The interior was completed by Autocraft in Chatswood in soft Ferrari leather and carpet. The toolkit pouch remade to suit the interior and is gold plated. The car has electric roof and windows and is air conditioned. It also has an immobiliser. It has a fully rebuilt 3.0Lt engine, gearbox and diff courtesy of Bob Whyms Automotive. Whilst it was in stock for, it did have some mild headwork that can be noticed by sound and performance. The 5 speed gearbox feels new and tight. The undercarriage is as good as the bodywork with excellent attention to detail.
