Antique bronze light fixture from the historic Harvey House in Syracuse, Kansas. This architectural gem was acquired from a retired railroader and is a rare find with rich history. Although missing the original white globe that would have been in the center, the fixture remains a beautiful piece of architectural salvage. It measures 26" long, with the circular part spanning 18" across, and includes the original mounting spacers or pads. The fixture has not been cleaned, leaving its lovely patina intact for the new owner to preserve or restore as desired.
The Harvey Houses, established by Fred Harvey in the late 1800s, were renowned restaurants and hotels located along the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway. Known for their exceptional service, Harvey Houses played a significant role in the history of railroad travel across the American West. The Syracuse location was one such important stop, providing comfort and hospitality to travelers and rail employees alike.
For more historical context, the Architectural Observer featured an article on an identical fixture, found at an antique mall several years before 2018. This fixture is a wonderful opportunity for collectors or history enthusiasts looking to own a piece of Harvey House and railroad history.
