Chinese, 17th/18th century. The protruding crest-rail is supported on a broad S-shaped backsplat and curved rear posts which continue to form the rear legs. The curved arms are supported on tapering, curved stiles and curved front posts which continue through the seat frame to form the front legs. The molded seat frame encloses a soft mat seat above beaded, cusped aprons and spandrels. The round-section legs are joined by stepped stretchers at the sides and a footrest at the front. Compare Sotheby's Hong Kong, a similar pair, with dragon cloud scroll on the front aprons, from the Hotung collection, 09 Oct 22, lot. 115. Compare a single official's hat armchair, dated to Ming dynasty, with a carved backsplat, in Wang Shixiang's "Classic Chinese Furniture", Hong Kong 1991, p88, pl 46. 45 ½ in. Chinese, Ming dynasty, School of Qiao Bin The stoneware Buddha figure seated in a relaxed pose with right leg bent in a resting position, and left leg draped over a dragon theme platform. Her figure clothed loose fitting green robes tied high above the waist with the upper chest exposed, adorned with beads and jewels, the head with a tall chignon behind a bejeweled crown, glazed in bright green, straw and yellow enamel glazes highlighted in black. CALLIGRAPHY, in a cursive hand, signed by Cheng Shifa, cyclically dated to 1973, with two seals of the artist. Cheng Shifa, who graduated from Shanghai Art College in 1941, was skillful in calligraphy, his style is a combination of hasty, Li, and Zhuan school. Thai, medieval, 14/15 th century, Standing in armour, in a protective gesture. Dvarapalas, also known as Yakshas, they are the guardians of the earth treasures and were originally antigods (asuras). Dvarapalas are guardians of doors and entrances of temples and other holy sanctuaries. With the bulging eyes, sharp protruding teeth and tongue of unusual length they always appear fearful and with an imposing strength. Tomb horse pottery sculpture, the stocky full-bodied horse standing in a prancing pose, with sturdy legs and large hooves, the modeled head with bulging eyes; ears pricked up in a lively attitude, and the mouth open in a whinny, with the short tail slightly kinked and ending in a knot.
