Military medals, badges, insignia, ribbons, and patches mean many things in armed forces around the world. There are shoulder sleeve insignia, distinctive unit insignia, unit crests, and other indicia for dress uniforms as well as combat uniforms. They can indicate rank, specialty, commendations, qualifications, or the unit a service member belongs to.
