The shotgun category is for long guns with relatively large bores (inner barrel diameters). Shotguns are also used for bird and small game hunting; trap, skeet, and sporting clays; varminting at close range; home defense; and law enforcement and military use. Most are pump-action, semi-automatic, single-shot, or double-barreled in either side-by-side (SxS) or over/under (O/U) configuration. Typical shotguns are chambered for 12 gauge, 20 gauge, or .410 shells, but you’ll also see 28, 16, and 10 gauge guns on the market. There have been countless shotgun manufacturers over the years, but some of the major brands are (or were) Remington, Winchester, Browning, Mossberg & Sons, Franchi, Beretta, Benelli, Weatherby, Stoeger Industries, Ruger, SKB, Charles Daly, Ithaca Gun Company, H&R Firearms, CZ-USA, Savage Arms, Stevens, AYA, and Baikal.
