Curated presents a fundraising auction in partnership with the Kawartha Art Gallery. This auction features a collection of paintings by Ontario artist Maurice E. Roberts, created between 1942-1965 as the artist travelled throughout Southern Ontario and Quebec. The artist beautifully captured moments in time from communities such as Acton, Picton, Simcoe, Sutton, Beaverton, Brooklin, and Maple, as well as scenes from Kingston, Orillia, Georgian Bay, Toronto, and the Laurentians. These paintings are must-haves for the local history buff! The public is invited to bid on the paintings with proceeds from the sale going to the Kawartha Art Gallery. Kawartha Art Gallery was gifted the Maurice E. Roberts collection with the intention of raising funds for the care and conversation of the Gallery's Permanent Collection. Roberts captivates its observers with a view of landscapes over half a century ago. Maurice E. Roberts, 1888 – 1966, was born in Amherst Island, Ontario. Pursuing a career in banking Maurice spent many of his weekends and holidays exploring and painting the landscapes of Southern Ontario and Quebec, despite having no formal art training. All of the pieces are in excellent condition and have been professionally appraised. Each piece is signed and dated by the artist with many of the pieces in frames. “A painting is never finished – it simply stops in interesting places.” Paul Gardner, Arts writer. Kawartha Art Gallery invites you to enjoy all the interesting stops of the artist, Maurice E. Roberts. The photo used for the preview is a self portrait of the artist, date unknown, not for sale.
REGISTRATION: In order to bid, you must register and provide proof of identification. We collect credit card information to prove bidders are of legal age and are qualified buyers. There is no charge to register for an auction. BIDS: All bids are final. Bidders cannot retract bids. You may enter a maximum bid. The auction software will bid incrementally on your behalf until you reach this maximum amount. If there is a reserve on a lot, you may have to pay a minimum amount to win that item. CONDITION OF ITEMS: All items are sold as is and where is. We try our best to describe items and photograph them well. If you have questions about an item you may contact us or book an appointment for a preview. We reserve the right to remove and/or add items to the sale at any point during the auction. NOTIFICATIONS: Bidders may choose to be notified by email if they have been outbid. Select this option when you complete your registration. SOFT CLOSE: We offer a soft close on items. If a bid is made on an item in the last 3 minutes of an auction, bidding will remain open for that item another 2 minutes. Bidding will continue to be extended until no further bids are made. WINNING BIDS: Winners will be notified shortly after the close of the auction. Winners' credit cards will be charged at that time for the hammer price of the item(s) plus applicable buyer's premiums and sales tax. If shipping is requested, a shipping charge will be added to the invoice using the credit card on file, unless otherwise discussed. BUY IT NOW: If there is a Buy It Now link provided, customers may purchase the item before the auction closes for the listed price. If an item is purchased before the auction closes it will be removed from the catalogue. But It Now links will remain in place until an auction bid surpasses the listed price and all links will be removed 24 hours before the end of the auciton if they have not been used. PAYMENT: Winners are charged on their credit cards following the close of the auction. There are no payments made at Pick Up unless otherwise negotiated with Curated beforehand. PICK UP: Items must be picked up at the specified time and place. Items not picked up will be considered abandoned and bidders may be charged for disposal. Please bring materials to pack and transport your winning items. Please bring enough people to safely move large or heavy items. Any damage caused to the property during removal of your items may result in a charge to your credit card. DISPUTES/CLAIMS: In the unlikely event of a dispute, you agree to accept as true the information that we have in our records. No claims regarding goods purchased will be allowed. Bidders are reminded that all goods are sold on an 'as is, where is' basis, with all faults. PERSONAL AND PROPERTY RISKS: The buyer expressly agrees to indemnify and save Curated, the seller and their assigns harmless from and against all claims, losses, expenses, damage or liability, directly or indirectly caused by or resulting from an act, including the negligent acts or omissions of Curated, or anyone acting in their behalf in connection with or arising out of an auction. SUSPENSION/ PERMANENT BAN: A bidder will be suspended or permanently banned for providing false information when registering or for failing to honour an auction bid.
