Yellow seal silver certificates are commonly called North Africa notes by currency collectors. North Africa notes consist of the series of 1935A $1 note, series of 1934A $5 note, series of 1934 $10 note, and the series of 1934A $10 note – all of which have a yellow seal. In 1942 the United States troops were heavily involved in the North Africa campaign of World War II. All of the soldiers were paid in cash for their services. Just like with the Hawaii notes, the American government was worried that the American money supply in North Africa could be taken over by a German attack. In response to this worry, all military personnel were paid with one, five, and ten dollar silver certificates with a yellow seal. This action was taken so that any silver certificate with a yellow seal could be devalued if the Germans did in fact capture the money. Colt Lawman MkIII DA Revolver in 357 Magnum. This example was manufactured in 1977 and features a blued finish, 2" barrel, 6 shot capacity, fixed sights and factory wood checkered grips. Condition grades at 95% due to a turn ring however this gun has the very smooth and crisp trigger Colt is known for. From the Internet: "1969 - 1982 In the late 1960s, Colt began to be concerned with a decline in its market share because of price increases brought about by the high labor costs inherent in its manufacturing processes. In response, an entirely new product line of revolvers dubbed the MK III series debuted in 1969. Intended to be the first major advancement of Colt's designs since the beginning of the 20th century, the MK IIIs used a new 'J' frame and had no parts interchangeability with older models. The new revolvers were considered groundbreaking as they were the first modern revolver designs to employ a state of the art transfer-bar lockwork system. This lockwork was not only more sophisticated, but inherently safer due to its superiority to the older hammer-blocking designs; the revolver could fire only if the trigger was deliberately pulled completely to the rear. It also vastly improved on the earlier design in durability, and offered the advantage of employing sintered iron internal parts rather than expensive forged ones. The sintered parts also allowed for improved fabrication tolerances, and could be given a special heat treatment resulting in a harder more wear-resistant composition. Turkish Mauser Bolt Action Rifle in 8mm. CAI Imported from Germany and made for the Turkish Army. This gun was processed through the Ankara Turkey Arsenal in 1946. It features the Star and Crescent Moon stamp of Ottoman Empire. It is in good condition for it's age and travels. It has a smooth action however the serial numbers do not match which is very common for these guns. Also comes with a bayonet and sheath. From the Internet: "The 1903 is a large ring, 1898 style, Mauser, but with a 1893 style small shank barrel. According to Olson, 200,000 of these were made by Mauser in Oberndorf between 1903 and 1905. When these were converted from their original 7.65mm to 7.92mm (this is often called an 03/38), the receiver was slightly notched to easily allow loading of the slightly longer rounds. The bolt and magazine of the 1903 is also shorter than an actual 8mm model 98. This is an intermediate length action and the bolt and magazine are 0.2 inches shorter than a standard length 98 action. The receiver face is, coincidentally, 0.2 longer than a 98. Other intermediates include the M24 by FN, the Yugoslavian Models 47, 48 and several South American contract rifles." His service during the French and Indian War was followed by the exploration of the newly acquired Florida in 1763. Unfortunately Mrs. Boone did not appreciate the heat and humidity of the territory, so Boone commenced his explorations of Kentucky during 1769-1771. They attempted to establish a colony there in 1773, but were foiled by hostile Native Americans. He persevered two years later, however, establishing Boonesboro in 1775. While there were some hostilities between Boone and the Native tribes, he eventually made Peace with Chief Blackfish of the Chillicothe tribe, an event depicted on the commemorative coin. In late spring of 1934, sculptor Augustus Lukeman was hired by the Kentucky Daniel Boone Bicentennial Commission to prepare designs for the coin honoring the frontiersman. Unfortunately for the commission, Lukeman ignored several of their artistic requirements for the coin, and eventually the Commission was forced to concede and simply run with the designs provided after minor changes. The obverse features a left-facing idealized portrait of Daniel Boone, along with United States of America and Half Dollar. On the reverse, full-length figures of Boone and Chief Black Fish face one another against a backdrop of the Boonesboro blockhouse at left and the rising sun at right. To the left is the inscription DANIEL BOONE BICENTENNIAL and to the right the words PIONEER YEAR are featured. The latter is a reference to the date 1934, which appears below the figures on coins minted in 1934 and above the phrase itself on pieces coined during part of 1935 and thereafter through 1938. Morgan Composition: Silver Fineness: 0.9000 Weight: 12.5000g ASW: 0.3617oz The Huguenot half dollar was struck in 1924 in commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the Huguenot peoples’ arrival in America after fleeing religious prosecution in Europe. The coin was not very well received as it was seen as a violation of the First Amendment separating church and state. Yet the Huguenot-Walloon New Netherland Commission was successful in lobbying Congress to authorize the coin. Revenue for the coin was to be used to help offset the cost of tercentenary celebrations planned for 1924. On February 26th, 1923, a bill was passed which authorized the coining of up to 300,000 half dollars to commemorate “the settling of New Netherland, the Middle States, in 1624, by Walloons, French and Belgian Huguenots, under the Dutch West India Company. The obverse depicts the conjoined portraits of Admiral Gaspard de Coligny and William the Silent, both of whom were Huguenot martyrs assassinated decades before the founding of New Netherland. Also included are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arced above their heads, with HUGUENOT HALF DOLLAR below, and IN GOD WE TRUST in small letters to their right. The reverse depicts the Huguenots’ ship, the Nieuw Nederlandt, with HUGEHUENOT-WALLOON TERCENTENERARY above, and FOUNDING OF NEW NETHERLAND below. Russian SKS Semi Auto Rifle in 7.62x39mm Russian SKS imported by CAI. It is in excellent condition with a smooth action and swing out bayonet. All the visible numbers match including the stock except the magazine housing. Still this is a very nice example of the SKS. From the internet: "The SKS is a Soviet semi-automatic carbine chambered for the 7.62×39mm round, designed in 1943 by Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov. Its complete designation, SKS-45, is an initialism for Samozaryadny Karabin sistemy Simonova, 1945; Self-loading Carbine of (the) Simonov system, 1945). The SKS-45 was manufactured at Tula Arsenal from 1949-1958 and at Izhevsk Arsenal in just 1953 and 1954, resulting in a total Soviet production of about 2.7 million carbines.
