Description
Hall of Fame & All Star Memorabilia Online Auction From the Doctor David Preston Collection. Many Rare Items. HISTORY: 1948 Ted Williams was experimenting with bats of different weights and statures when he received a letter from 14 year old David Pressman. The boy explained that if Williams baked the bats in an oven before a game it would wick off 2 ounces of moisture in the bat and would make the bat "faster". Ted Williams took the advice of the boy and subsequently baked his bats before every game. Ted Williams and the boy became lifelong friends. When the boy grew up he joined the RedSox team and later in life became a doctor. He was friends with many major league players as well as a physician and advisor. Dr. Pressman also opened a photography studio with his works being displayed at prominent baseball museums, Logan Airport and publications. We are honored to bring to the public this portion of his personal collection.
