Description
Finding out my ancestry this last year, I have discovered I am 10% Irish. Kinda makes me feel a little more entitled to celebrate St Patrick's Day. For those interested in a brief summary of the history of the holiday, here you go as told by www.britannica.com St. Patrick’s Day, feast day (March 17) of St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland. Born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century, he was kidnapped at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. He escaped but returned about 432 CE to convert the Irish to Christianity. By the time of his death on March 17, 461, he had established monasteries, churches, and schools. Many legends grew up around him—for example, that he drove the snakes out of Ireland and used the shamrock to explain the Trinity. Ireland came to celebrate his day with religious services and feasts. Here are a few other holidays you might enjoy celebrating this week: March 17th: Corned Beef & Cabbage Day St. Patricks Day March 18th: Awkward Moments Day Biodiesel Day Corn Dog Day Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day Sloppy Joe Day Supreme Sacrifice Day Quilting Day March 19th: Backward Day Cerified nurses Day Cholocolate Caramel Day Lete's Laugh Day Poultry Day March 20th: Proposal Day Ravioli Day World Flour Day Spring Begins March 21st: California Strwberry Day Common Courtesy Day COuntdown Day Fragrance Day French Bread Day Single Parent Day World Down Syndrome Day World Social Work Day March 22nd: 3-D Day Goof Off Day Bavarian Crepes Day West Virginia Day
