'Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the stores, Shoppers elbowed and shuffled in frantic décor wars. Tinsel flew like confetti, carts collided with flair- But the wise folks stayed home, lounging cozy in chairs. For they knew something special-some might say sensation: The arrival, soon, of the famed Saint Crustacean. Not jolly old Nicholas-no, forget that old clause- For this year's big hero was Santa Claws. A Blue Crab of legend, with eight scuttling feet, And a beard made of sea-foam (which smelled mildly of peat). His helpers skittered round him-no elves short and stout, But blue crabs in tool belts, all clicking about. Instead of toy-making, these crustaceans were keen On polishing heirlooms to a soft, seasoned sheen: Victorian spittoons, an antique brass electric fan Old harmonic Victrola and an ancient warning Klaxon . "Why panic-shop gifts?" Santa Claws cheerfully snapped, With a clack of his claws as his helpers all clapped. "No mall lines! No chaos! No wallet attacks! Just treasures and antiques-freshly hauled from my sacks!" Then up on the housetop came a thunderous tap-tap, A sound not of hooves but of claws in a flap. The children peeked out, wide-eyed at the sight: A crab-driven sleigh, glowing bright in the night! With a whoosh it descended, landing neat as can be, As Saint Crustacean bellowed, "Auction time! Come and see!" He opened his cases with a flourish so grand, And out came fine objects far older than the land. "No need for last-minute stress," he proclaimed with a cheer, "For Claws brings the bargains just once every year! Bid high or bid low-there are treasures for all! A curio Christmas beats a trip to the mall!" And the crowd gathered round, full of yuletide delight, As his helpers display'd every item just right. Then Santa Claws winked as he packed up his kit- "Well, shoppers, next year, maybe don't rush one bit." And they heard him exclaim as he scuttled from sight, "Merry Christmas to all- and to all a good bid tonight!"
