The current pandemic has forced us to postpone the much loved and anticipated traditional New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale (NHMRS), an annual event with over 40 venues and an estimated 2,000 volunteers sharing their passion for assisting others in need. Each year, visitors come to taste delicious teaballs, springrolls, barbecued chicken, and other cultural foods. They also admire intricate crafts, are entertained with music and games and purchase beautiful handmade quilts.
The quilt auction has always been a highlight of the sale and we're so glad we can continue this tradition online in support of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
This year MCC celebrates its 100th year. Since 1920, MCC has worked with the church, partner organizations and supporters to share God's love by responding to basic human needs and working for peace and justice. They started by helping families affected by war and famine in southern Russia (present-day Ukraine) and now work in more than 50 countries around the world!
In addition to this live auction, NHMRS is holding an online silent auction featuring a beautiful selection of small quilts. The site is found at https://www.32auctions.com/small-quilt-auction-2020.
On Saturday, October 17, 2020, approximately 50 quilts and numerous other new items will be sold at a one-day relief sale, featuring many of the regular craft and food conveners. This event will be held at the New Hamburg Fairgrounds. Additional details and periodical updates will be listed on https://nhmrs.com.
