Virginia Arts of the Book Center is a community of artists exploring books, paper, and printmaking through a hands-on studio of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. We engage in humanities and arts projects with a community-access approach and are a resource for individual artists. We exist to provide the public a direct experience with book arts in classes, workshops, and collaborative projects. Among VABC's treasured resources is the largest and best documented moveable type collection in Virginia available for public use. We exhibit work and plan events annually for our sister program, the Virginia Festival of the Book, which features five days and hundreds of authors each March in Charlottesville. The Raucous Auction is VABC's annual fundraiser, featuring the latest collaborative project but also highlighting work that goes on at the studio through the year. Artists, organizations, and friends donate art, books, and experiences that help keep the doors open and the print rollers rolling. A vital community of support has helped keep the VABC active in Central Virginia since 1995. Your bids and purchases keep the spirit alive. Virginia Foundation for the Humanities connects people and ideas to explore the human experience and inspire cultural engagement. By supporting and producing cultural, civic, local, and global educational programs for broad public audiences, VFH encourages discovery and connection through the humanities.
