Description
Mitchell's Large Scale Map of New York 1858. The large 19th century map is titled Mitchell's County and Township Map of the State of New York Showing the Adjoining Portions of New England New Jersey and Pennsylvania With Their Internal Improvements. Philadelphia, published by S. Augustus Mitchell 1858. The billboard size hand colored map has all over toning and is mounted on very fine hand woven linen. There are some visible repaired tears. Advertisements include Chickering Pianos, firms selling bed springs, ornamental metal manufacturers, gas generators, pumps, steam engines, hydraulic rams, enameled and grained chamber furniture, wrought iron pipes, bakery, bakers, confectioners and confectionery businesses, sewing machines, ready-made clothing, iron merchants - bank safes, piano stools, machinery, marble works, hot water heating, soap and candle works, dentists, fancy textile dyeing, agricultural implements, furnaces and even a general auctioneer. Measures 55 inches high by 63.7 inches wide.
